Meltons
Run by local chef Michael Hjort, Meltons has been awarded 2 AA rosettes and a 5 star rating in the Good Food Guide. The predominantly British menu, which changes monthly, isn't cheap but it is high quality. The atmosphere depends on who's there on the night –some say there's a distinct front room feel, others enjoy the lively murals and wacky waiter. The Observer once claimed there's "An unsnooty willingness to please the punter". I wouldn't normally quote other publications but unsnooty's such an amusing word.
