Once you've gone through the pointless and tiresome charade of proving your age – funnily enough no, I haven't brought my passport along for a damp Wednesday evening in North Yorkshire –, your upper–body clothing will have to pass the doorman's changing definition of what is/is not a t–shirt for you to gain entry here. Once in you'll find its artistic credentials on a par with Tony Hart's gallery, as its name derives from the balcony overlooking the dancefloor. The music policy is divided into cheesy chart and dance upstairs – S Club meets So Solid Crew – and indie, R'n'B and hip hop downstairs – The Strokes meet So Solid Crew –. And for those who are used to the dulcet tones of Wogan introducing their records, there's a random selection of DJs and somewhat temperamental MC–ing on offer. But it's all good fun, especially on student night, when there's plenty of bouncing around and liver damage activity going on. Two handy tips though: 1 – the bouncers don't mind you spilling ale on the already sticky carpet, but lean your pint anywhere near the dance–floor and you're likely to get a rollicking. And 2 – for protection purposes, try and take as many friends with you as possible, as separation at any point in the evening will see you fending off over–enamoured clubbers trying to stick their hands down your blouse/grab their crotches and wink at the same time.
