Lendal Cellars
Evidence of the inflated wage packets handed out in local government –this huge pub, bigger than any penthouse apartment by the river, was once the Lord Mayor's wine cellar. God knows how big his utility room was. The exposed brickwork and arched ceilings are still here, but sadly the wine is now held captive behind the bar. As well as the old fermented grape juice they also stock Black Sheep, Hoegaarden, Adnams and Deuchars IPA, as well as changing guests. Your mobile will never work in here, but that's all part of the charm of drinking underground.
