The Willow
If X Factor's Wagner was a venue in York, he'd be the Willow: our
favourite school disco/Chinese restaurant hybrid in the world.
It's brilliant in a post-modern, ironic sort of way: expect the
cheesiest of music, a dinner hall turned into the dance floor, and the
bizarre experience of people eating as you dance. Aware of its
very obvious flaws, they even sell T-shirts comparing themselves to
Marmite. Not that they need to, since everyone loves the place, mainly
thanks to the friendly staff and cheap drinks. If you want the
height of sophistication, look elsewhere. But for a fun night out
in York, you can't beat the Willow.
