Deramore Arms, York

More popular with locals and uni staff than the more NUS–oriented Charles. Maybe because it's that daunting 30 metres further from campus – the students who do manage the journey tend to be on uni sports teams –. If you're planning on using a discussion about the writings of Albert Camus as a pretext for copping off, stick to the Charles. However, if you just want decent food and cheap beer in a friendly traditional pub, then you can't go wrong with the Derry.

User Reviews for Deramore Arms

UUUUUUggggggggggghh! My colleague and I visited on a lunchtime. My colleague chose 'strips of steak with onion and mushrooms in a baguette'. I ordered 'succulent pieces of chicken with a spicy peanut sauce'. WELL............ basically my colleague had 'stew' in a baguette, not a sighting of onion or mushroom (like a tin of stewed steak in gravy had been opened). Mine was a panfried chicken breast - not a hint of 'five spice' (don't think they'd know what that was), plain and dull, with a creamy mayo type sauce - a hint of peanut (?) poured all over it. Not a skewer in sight. Rubbish, unimaginative, tasteless. Oh, and just to finish off my colleague had a cherry tomato on the side of hers with the green stalk top still on it. CLASSY EAHHHH! Basically student food cooked by students! HORRID. Never ever ever returning there again.
