Once you've gone through the pointless and tiresome charade of proving your age – funnily enough no, I haven't brought my passport along for a damp Wednesday evening in North Yorkshire –, your upper–body clothing will have to pass the doorman's changing definition of what is/is not a t–shirt for you to gain entry here. Once in you'll find its artistic credentials on a par with Tony Hart's gallery, as its name derives from the balcony overlooking the dancefloor. The music policy is divided into cheesy chart and dance upstairs – S Club meets So Solid Crew – and indie, R'n'B and hip hop downstairs – The Strokes meet So Solid Crew –. And for those who are used to the dulcet tones of Wogan introducing their records, there's a random selection of DJs and somewhat temperamental MC–ing on offer. But it's all good fun, especially on student night, when there's plenty of bouncing around and liver damage activity going on. Two handy tips though: 1 – the bouncers don't mind you spilling ale on the already sticky carpet, but lean your pint anywhere near the dance–floor and you're likely to get a rollicking. And 2 – for protection purposes, try and take as many friends with you as possible, as separation at any point in the evening will see you fending off over–enamoured clubbers trying to stick their hands down your blouse/grab their crotches and wink at the same time.

User Reviews for The Gallery
A club with a notoriously strict dress code, especially when it comes to footwear, it seems smart shoes maketh the man. Large groups of guys should split up and enter in pairs or 3's to avoid being denied access, this tip is all the more important if your group have already had a a "few". There have been several occurances when first timers at the Gallery have mistakenly believed that they have entered the York Dungeon in error (both venues share the same building). Grotesque imagery, contorted faces and music from the CIA interrogation chart are all in effect, we should forgive them for their mistake.

I can not beleive that such an awesome place exists. It looks amazing (as do the staff thats one thing I hate it seems you have to be a model to work there)I would struggle to find anywhere as good in Amsterdam or London I'm sure all bars and cafe's in San Fransico are just like this. After ordering food from the thai menu and selecting from a huge range of drinks from around the world I go buy a cigar in the shop at the front then I go upstairs to the turkish style lounge area arrange my cushions nicely, check my emails while waiting and afterwards chill out talking to whomever I have met as we almost fall alseep watching the XXL lava lamp. Unfortunatley dispite 24 hour drinking it closes early at 11pm. They have a website, check out it this badley written reveiw doesn't do it justice. The world needs more places like this and going to the evil eye is like driving through texas and finding Austin.
